Total Hours: 30 hours 25 minutes
Days for Girls: 1 hour 10 minutes
Days for Girls is an organization devoted to supplying women around the world with period-related products. They create bags containing reusable cloth pads, soap bars, underwear, etc. The final product is sent to developing nations where women don't have access to period supplies. I contributed to their mission by sewing the bags that the period kits come in, and sorting the contents. During this process, I was reminded that not all countries accept periods as normal. Women have been scrutinized and are taught to be ashamed of a natural human function. Their website is linked at the bottom of the page.
Latino Vaccination Clinic: 15 hours 30 minutes
I volunteered with the Brown County Public Health Department on three separate occasions at latino vaccination clinics in Green Bay. They offer COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters to latino communities where there may be a lack of medical outreach. The vaccinations are free and identification is not required. Although I am not qualified to administer the vaccines, I helped through a variety of other tasks. I set up the vaccination tents, oversaw the children's area, and offered cookies and water to recipients in the post-vaccination waiting room.
Immigration Presentation: 2 hours 30 minutes
As a junior I was asked to volunteer at Meadowbrook Elementary School and present my experience with immigration. Valerie Rehn and I detailed the legal process of relocation and the social assimilation following the change. We answered questions and, although it sounds silly, introduced many of the children to the reality that other countries exist. I intend to present again this spring as a senior. Similarly, the presentation is linked below.
Muslim Student Association: 1 hour
I volunteered during two lunch periods for the Muslim Student Association at Bay Port. We sold baked goods to students in order to raise money to support reconstruction of areas affected by the flooding from June to October.
GSP Advertising: 9 hours 15 minutes
Many of my hours were earned through volunteering directly for the Global Scholar Program. I made foldable billboards, posters, pamphlets, and brochures for the club. Also, on two occasions I was asked to present about GSP to underclassman and incoming Bay Port students. The first event was at the 2022 open house where I ran the GSP booth and answered questions about the program. The second event was a pirate time period where I gave an overview on the requirements for GSP. Below is an example of a pamphlet I made for the open house event.
